Data normalization

How to ensure that your data organization work is effective

By definition, the ability to normalize data inside an application means finding good relational schemes between the data so that:

  • There is no information redundancy
  • There are no data input, cancellation or modification errors

The benefits that normalization of company data brings are:

  • Improved efficiency: in terms of performance, use of financial resources, the work force, and machines

The criteria for efficiency is that improved data integrity has an effect on all phases of the life-cycle of an application, from needs analysis to maintenance.

  • Greater effectiveness: in responding to precise user needs

It is also important to underline that there are at least three ways of presenting the data elaborated by our applications: Conceptual, where the data expresses a valid concept in a selected use context, meaning that it comes from the hardware or software itself and refers solely to the real world;
Logical, where the data is expressed based on an existing logical model; and
Physical, based on the rapport with the technology being used. This is the most common way data is managed by programmers.

Without any lack of continuity between the methods for “seeing” the data, at PAT we guarantee optimization of the database structures which support your IT applications and solutions.
